Vandalism & Theft

According to this media report, the Gadsden Independent School District in New Mexico has experienced vandalism damages and theft of laptops/computers totaling $30,000 in the month of August. District administration cites the following primary issues:
  • Lack of Consistency in Security Measures.
  • Proximity Challenges for Emergency Responders.
In the wake of these recent incidents and losses, the district has earmarked $70,000 for security improvements. Investing funds in security systems and products will help, but may not be enough.
What are some additional ways the district can address these primary issues?
How can the district improve the security awareness of staff and community?
What stakeholders would you involve in this initiative?
What would you do to sustain the improvement process?
Please share your ideas and comments.
